When is the Best Time to Visit Coron in Palawan?

Understanding Coron’s Climate
Before diving (some pun intended) into the best times to visit, let’s get the lay of the land. Weather-wise, Coron Island is a relatively small island in the Calamian Islands when compared to the main Palawan Island and experiences two main seasons, the dry season and the wet season.

Coron month by month
January
Dry, and about as comfortable as the tropics get. 38mm of rain across the whole month, which in practice is the odd shower rather than a day lost. Seas are calm, visibility is good, and it is the coolest average of the year at 26.3 degrees, which only means 26 instead of 28.
It is also one of the two months we run an expedition here. Ten days in Busuanga Bay, learning the skills first and then being left on an uninhabited island to use them.

February
The driest month of the year, 26mm, and the one to pick if you are picking on weather alone. Clear skies, flat water, and the best conditions of the year for the wrecks.
It is the other month we run here. Same ten days, same bay, different group.

March
Effectively as dry as February at 27mm, and a degree warmer. The last of the properly settled weather before the heat builds. Busier, because everyone else has worked this out too.
April
Still dry at 40mm, but the hottest month of the year at 27.8 degrees. Good for water, less good for walking about in the middle of the day. The trade-off starts here.
May
The turn. Rainfall jumps from 40mm to 188mm, which is the single biggest change in the calendar. Mornings are often still clear and the rain comes later in the day, so it is not a write-off, but it is no longer reliable.
June
342mm and properly into the wet season. Boat trips start getting cancelled. Everything is greener and emptier, and prices soften, which is the honest upside.
July
The wettest month of the year at 460mm. Unless you have a specific reason, this is the one to avoid.
August
388mm, barely better than July. Same advice.
September
407mm, the second wettest month. The rain is heavy rather than constant, but sea conditions are the problem more than the rain itself.
October
240mm and easing. The back end of the month is noticeably better than the front. A gamble, but a shortening one.
November
151mm and improving properly. Fewer people, lower prices, and a real chance of good weather. The best value month if you are willing to accept some risk.
December
133mm and the dry season starting. Early December can still catch rain, late December is reliably good, which is why the peak season is usually dated from here.

So When Should You Go?
If you want the best weather and you do not mind the crowds, February or March. If you want good weather and a bit more room, January. If you want the place close to empty and you will take the risk, November.
Avoid July, August and September unless something other than weather is bringing you.
