Contestants who took part in the survival TV show “Alone UK” on Channel 4 could choose 10 items from a pre-defined list of 56 items listed below.

First, there were several items each “Alone UK” contestant was given as standard, including safety gear, camera kit, and general clothing.

The General Gear

These did not count towards the 10 items.

  • 1x Pair of boots
  • 1x Pair of wellingtons
  • 1x Light outdoor jacket
  • 2x Pairs of outdoor pants (can unzip into shorts)
  • 1x T-shirt
  • 2x Fleece or wool shirts (hooded or unhooded)
  • 6x Pairs of wool socks
  • 2x Hats (brimmed, wool, or baseball)
  • 1x Bandana or shemagh
  • 4x Pairs of gloves
  • 2x Sets of underwear
  • 1x Rain jacket and rain trousers
  • 2x Base layers

  • 1x First aid kit (military type – tourniquet, wadding, ace bandage, alcohol wipes, plastic bag, etc.)

  • 1x Emergency pack, including water, food, wool blanket, fire lighting kit, etc. (sealed and can’t be opened by participant unless in an emergency)

Shelter

  • 12×12 ground tarp (grommets approved)
  • 8mm climbing rope (10m)
  • 550 Paracord (70m)
  • Hatchet
  • Saw
  • Axe

Bedding

  • A multi-seasonal sleeping bag that fits within the provided backpack
  • Bivy bag (Gore-Tex sleeping bag cover)
  • Sleeping pad
  • Hammock

Cooking

  • Pot, including the lid (2 qt max)
  • Steel frying pan
  • Flint or ferro rod set
  • Enamel bowl for eating
  • Spoon
  • Canteen or water bottle
  • Bear canister for food storage

Hygiene

  • 1x Bar of soap
  • 8oz Tube of toothpaste
  • 1x Face flannel
  • 40m Roll of dental floss
  • Small bottle of bio shower soap
  • Shaving razor (and 1 blade)
  • Towel (30” x 60”)
  • Comb

Hunting

  • 300-yard roll of nylon single filament fishing line and 25 assorted hooks (Only barbless hooks, no lures, maximum hook size 7/0)
  • 3.5 lb roll of snare wire
  • Recurve bow with 9 arrows (compound not allowed)
  • Small gauge gill net (8m x 2m, 4-inch gauge)
  • Slingshot/Catapult (with 60 shots)
  • Net foraging bag

Food

Only a maximum of 2 can be taken.

  • 2 kilos of beef jerky (protein)
  • 2 kilos of dried pulses/legumes/lentils mix (starch and carbs)
  • 2 kilos of biltong (protein)
  • 2 kilos of hard tack military biscuits (carbs/sugars)
  • 2 kilos of chocolate (simple/complex sugars)
  • 2 kilos of pemmican (traditional trail food made from fat and proteins)
  • 2 kilos of gorp (raisins, M&M’s, and peanuts)
  • 2 kilos of flour (starch/carbs)
  • 500 grams of rice, 500 grams of sugar, and 500 grams of salt
