Modern life is stressful, we rarely take time to slow down and live with nature, the simple way our ancestors did.

Sometimes we need a holiday that entirely disconnects us and transports us away from the modern world. An experience that shifts our perspective on life and melts away stress more than we thought possible.

Watch this!

Want to live a genuine adventure yourself?

We search the world for the most stunning desert islands in the world and then maroon you on them.

Desert Island Survival

Our island adventures are about stripping life back to its simplest essence, and learning how to work with nature to survive. It’s about getting a break from modern chaos, tapping into raw resilience, honing your instincts that have become dulled by routine, and igniting confidence that’s been overshadowed by urban anxieties.

We know we are totally biased but strongly believe everyone should experience being castaway on a desert island at least once in their life. Many of our castaways come again and again…

Why you need this?

Total Disconnection

When you step off the hamster wheel of life, slow down and take a look around, you will be amazed at how the stresses of life melt away and the perspective you gain.

Authentic Experience

“Just back from the Tonga trip and can honestly say this was an amazing life changing experience. The instructors were super knowledgeable and helpful and are practically celebrities in the bushcraft world.”

“I originally was very afraid of a few aspects of isolation period, but they really know how to prepare both your skills and your mind that on the day before the isolation, I was thinking “let’s do this, can’t wait to start”. I completely recommend this trip to anyone looking for a lifetime adventure.”

“All I can say is WOW! This trip may just be the perfect adventure. Why? Two words: Training and Survival. Training is flat out fun and you learning useful skills (friction fire, finding that perfect coconut cake, etc). Then survival may be even better.”

FAQ

Surviving on desert islands, is it safe?

For most people, ‘deserted islands’ are synonymous with sharks, snakes, etc. However, all in all, desert islands are relatively safe places; sharks avoid humans; in fact, coconuts kill 15 times more people than sharks each year, so coconuts are the real enemy! Jokes aside, there is always risk. We cannot eliminate it entirely, we feel that would sterilize the experience. What we do is our best to mitigate risk. We evaluate all of our islands for their dangers before we take you there; they are handpicked based on many factors, including; not having poisonous snakes, piracy, hazardous ocean currents, etc. Before you set foot on the island, you will receive a full safety briefing on how to live your time safely on the island. Our instructors are Wilderness First Responder certified, and in the event of injury we have an evacuation strategy in place to ensure you can be taken to the nearest medical facility.

That all said we cannot eliminate risk from our expeditions and so instead of getting you to sign a waiver, we work on a system of ‘informed consent’. This means you are informed in advance of the possible risks of your expedition prior to your departure. You can read about the risk and dangers here.

Do I need to have prior bushcraft experience?

Not at all; our courses are designed for beginners who have never done anything like this before.

Can I attend as a solo?

Absolutely. Most of our courses are attended by individual adventurers looking for new experiences and to meet interesting people. In addition, you can come with a friend or group, and some discounts apply to this too! You can arrange a bespoke trip just for your friends if you want. Please email us your ideas; we will do our best to accommodate them.

I’m vegetarian/vegan. Can I attend?

Yes, we can cater to various dietary needs. Throughout the first 5 days of training, we can adapt the menu. During the final 3 days of survival, plenty of plant-based food sources can still be found on the islands. We can also help supplement your diet to compensate for the lack of fish. Saying all this, we have had a few vegetarians choose to suspend their practice for this experience as it is ‘survival’; it’s entirely up to you. Just let us know when booking

How fit do I need to be?

Our trips are designed to be challenging, but you don’t need a very high level of physical fitness just that you should be in good health and pretty active. It is as much a mental challenge as it is physical. For example, we have people well into their late 60s and early 70s attending. If you are generally not very active, we recommend you undertake moderate training for a month or so before attending our expeditions. You can do some walking or swimming to improve your stamina; this will help you with days when you are wielding machetes and hauling wood and allow you to acclimatize to the environment more quickly. In summary, the fitter you are, the easier you will cope; why not make it a nice fitness goal to aim towards?
